Josef Attard is the Trombone and Baritone performer of Blat – The Island Fortress opera-film

TROMBONE & BARITONE PERFORMER


In Blat – The Island Fortress, Josef Attard performed the Trombone and Bb Baritone parts, and he was also an actor in the scenes where the local band was needed in the opera. According to Josef, participating in the production was a very enjoyable experience!


Josef is currently a music educator in primary state schools and a part-time educator at the MAVC Malta School of Music. He also teaches in 5 local band clubs on the islands.


Josef was born in 1996 and his musical journey began in 2002 at Gozo School of Music. A year later, he started studying the Bb trumpet with Mark Gauci, but after a few months he moved on to the Bb Baritone. Josef is an active member and musician of the Leone Philharmonic Society of Victoria, Gozo. In 2012, Josef won the promising category of the 9th Young Musicians Contest, and in 2014 he obtained the Dip.ABRSM. During that same year, he started his B.A(Hons) in Music at the University of Malta, specializing in trombone performance with the help of his tutor, Mark Gauci where he graduated in 2017. In that same year Josef started his master’s degree in Teaching and Learning in Music Studies at the University of Malta and graduated in 2019.


Josef was also a member of the Malta Youth Orchestra between 2012 and 2020 and has been principal trombone of the same orchestra from 2015. He has also been an intern with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra from 2016 till 2018 where he had several opportunities to play with the MPO and also go on tour in USA and Russia in 2018.
