The Permanent Secretary within the Ministry for Education and Employment Dr Francis Fabri, paid a visit to the Mikiel Anton Vassalli College (MAVC) Malta School of Music the end of this scholastic school term. Accompanied by the MAVC College Principal Mr Victor Galea, and Director General Strategy & Support Ms Maria Galea; Dr Fabri made it a point to meet the teaching staff and while he enjoyed the impromptu welcome by the School’s flute ensemble, he thanked the teachers for their dedication and commitment towards the development of a curriculum for Music education from MQF level 1 up to MQF Level 5 (Diploma level).
He also had a word of praise to the school administration for building networks with other institutions and entities such as MCAST, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, Heritage Malta and the Malta Council for Science and Technology (Esplora) amongst others. “Through such networks, the Malta School of Music is increasing the platform for its learners to perform before an audience, demonstrating the knowledge, skills and competences learned during their course of studies” appreciated Dr Fabri.
The dedication of teachers in such a specialised school setting is priceless explained the Dr Fabri. The Permanent Secretary also referred to the ongoing works taking place at the MAVC Malta School of Art as well as the plans to refurbish the current premises of the Malta School of Music in Hamrun with additional new studios properly equipped for music teaching amongst other artistic disciplines. He explained the Ministry’s vision to create a hub for the visual and performing arts education including Arts, Music, Drama and Dance. “The fact that we dedicated a College to focus on these network of schools is already a step in the right direction”
Presently, the MAVC Malta School of Music in Hamrun accommodates 800 learners for both Music Knowledge and Understanding (theory) classes and the individual teaching of musical instrument performance. The Malta School of Music offers training in all orchestral instruments varying from strings, woodwinds, brass and percussions as well as contemporary music performance.
