Welcome to the new Administrator of the MAVC, Malta School of Music

Dear Staff Members, Parents and Students at the MAVC, Malta School of Music,

It is my pleasure to welcome Ms Maria Blanco, who has been officially appointed as the new Head for the Malta School of Music within Mikiel Anton Vassalli College.

Ms Blanco joins us from the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, where most recently she was leading the orchestra’s Education and Development department. Prior to this Maria worked extensively in the field of music education during her time abroad, where her roles included that of Head of Department at the Minster School and Director of Music at Workshop College Prep School in Nottinghamshire.

Ms Blanco is an alumina of the University of Malta, Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest, the Royal Northern College of Music and Nottingham Trent University in the UK.

I would like to share with you that from my immediate discussions with Ms Blanco, I can feel that she has a fervent desire to develop music education in Malta and brings with her great enthusiasm to create new learning opportunities for staff and students at Malta School of Music. Her previous links with the school within our college, gives her some understanding and insight to be able to walk besides and lead the wonderful team of teachers, staff and students at our school.

Ms. Maria Blanco

May I take this opportunity to thank everyone during the period I was trying to fill the void of a Head of this Specialized School. Primarily I would like to thank Ms Odette Chetcuti for her great work and amazing commitment she showed during this quite long period. I feel we worked together brilliantly. Thanks to the 7 Music Department Leaders for their extra mile in their commitment towards the school as well as the members of the School’s Board of Studies. I will continue to cherish your co-operation as always.

Together we will continue the development of the Malta School of Music and the carry out the vision of the Mikiel Anton Vassalli: the College for the Visual and Performing Arts Education in Malta and Gozo.

Regards,

Victor Galea
