Festive Concerts and Activities by the School of Music

As we come to the end of this festive season, we take a look back at all the event which the School of Music students participated in during the month of December 2023.

The School’s Little Big Band were invited to participate in the 100 Year Celebration of the Malta Society of Arts. Our students had the honour of performing as the final number in the final concert of the MSA’s centenary celebrations, and their performance on the 7th of December at Palazzo de la Salle in Valletta was extremely well received by all in attendance.

The School was also invited to take part in the Christmas in the Park, organised by the Ministry for Environment, Energy and Enterprise. Our Brass Band, Accordion students, Flute Choir and Contemporary Band took centre stage to give a most entertaining performance at the Salini Park on the 12th of December.

The main event of our Christmas activities is the Annual Christmas Concert, which this year was held on the 15th of December at St George Parish Church in Qormi. This concert traditionally showcases some of the School’s best music ensembles, which this year included the Concert Band, Senior String Orchestra, Brass Ensemble, Clarinet Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, Flute Choir, Saxophone Trio, Children’s Choir, Advanced Voice Singers, Little Big Band and Contemporary Singers. The outstanding performances of each ensemble culminated in our congregational song which saw all students, teachers and audience members singing together in one unified performance of ‘The First Noel’.

On the 18th of December our younger students from the Children’s Choir, Junior String Orchestra, Junior Saxophone Ensemble and some solo violin and piano students, brought some Christmas cheer to the residents of Zammit Clapp Hospital.

The School of Music were also honoured to be invited to participate in this year’s Christmas in the Capital, organised by the Valletta Cultural Agency. The Little Big Band, Children’s Choir, Clarinet Ensemble, Advanced Singers and Contemporary Band gave a two-hour performance on the steps of St. John’s Co-Cathedral on the 20th of December. The cold weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of our budding young musicians and they gave another splendid performance which was well received by all those at St.John’s square in Valletta.
