It-Tħabbira Art Exhibition

An exhibition with it-Tħabbira as a theme, is being hosted in the school’s foyer and will feature works by teacher artists and students at the school.

The ideas being explored for this exhibition revolve around themes related to the story of the nativity of Jesus and narratives which might be linked with pregnancy, birth and family, amongst others. Art works ranging from paintings, to prints, to sculpture and mixed media have been ably curated by Umberto Buttigieg and Roderick Camilleri. Artists Dione Borg and Joe Galea explore the theme from an intimate perspective, depicting tender family moments of expectations and new birth whilst Kevin Ellul’s work parallels the nativity scene with the presence of an infant in a young family. Works by Joseph Micallef, Alfred Mizzi, Anthea Camenzuli and an anonymous sculpture from the school archives delve into the iconography of the mother and child in diverse media. Daniela Guevska, Daniela Camilleri and an anonymous painter from the school collection invite an exploration of softly fertile forms whilst Alfred Caruana Ruggier, Pietru Farrugia and Stephen Magri make commentaries on Christmas traditions, drawing themes from nostalgia and irony. The work by George Mario Attard and an anonymous pastel drawing selected from the school archive spotlight the profound mystery of life, innocence and light even in darkness.

The exhibition will be open to the public as from 14th December till the 22nd  December between 9.00 till 19.30 then from the 27th  December till the 12th January, 2024 between 9.00 and noon. The exhibition will be closed during the weekends and on public holidays.
