MSDD What’s up? Drama students across various levels fully engaged in their work

For those of you who might be wondering what goes on during our drama lessons at the MAVC Malta School of Drama & Dance in Blata l-Bajda; the past few months and those ahead have been a busy time in preparation for smaller projects which came to life at the end of the first term and new ones which will lead to the end of year examination performances as well as the eventual annual school showcase.

We will begin by having a look at what has been going on with regard to the classes of Mr. Manuel Cassar.

For students in MQF level 1 last term saw their first acting experience in a short, scripted play in front of an audience. The abridged Christmas pantomime ‘Little Red Riding Hood‘ was a big achievement for all students who are now working on ancient Greek drama while having fun with Greek masks and mythology in a scripted play entitled ‘Echo and Narcissus‘ .

Students from MQF level 3 are busy in workshops and adapting a drama script from the classic 1605 novel by Miguel De Cervantes ‘Don Quixote de la Mancha. The work portrays the life and insightful journey of Don Quixote de la Mancha, a Spanish man who seems to be losing his mind on his quest to become a knight and restore chivalry.  He is accompanied by a farmer named Sancho Panza, with whom he fights multiple imaginary situations. The students concerned are currently participating in workshops in exploration of this piece.

Diploma students (MQF level 5) are preparing and writing their own monologues whilst researching Maltese theatre. The students are working on the drama technique of devising a script which will eventually lead to an original piece and a performance at the end of the year which will be directed by the students themselves.
