Flautist Nicola Woodward held an inspirational masterclass on Saturday 13th of June, for School of Music flute students. After her insightful feedback to all participants, Nicola moved on to a very interesting and informative presentation on some of the most contemporary flute techniques in use today – a real treat for all… students, teachers and observers alike!
Nicola Woodward, co-founder of the Rockhampton Festival, was awarded exhibition scholarships on both flute and piano at the Royal College of Music and several prizes for all-round musicianship. She has performed at the Wigmore Hall, the Purcell Rooms, given live broadcasts on Classic FM and BBC Radio 3, worked with the LPO and Bournemouth Orchestras and toured Latin America for the British Council. Nicola toured extensively with ‘Live Music Now!’ and is now involved with the scheme as a mentor.
The masterclass, which was held using an online platform due to the current COVID restrictions, was attended by a total of 22 School of Music flute students and teachers. This is one of many ongoing classes held in collaboration with several international performers.
Advanced flute students at the Malta School of Music were given the unique opportunity to work with Nicola Woodward as active participants in these masterclasses. Elisa Sacco, Elisa Borg, Anouschka Vella and Claire Bezzina presented well-prepared works and received valuable feedback about their performances from Nicola Woodward.
“Thank you to everyone in Malta for making my first ever online masterclasses such a positive experience. Technology was our friend today and in many ways, I forgot that we were 4000 miles apart! I look forward to meeting you all for real in the not-too-distant future!”
