Opportunity to learn and take part in our College Production 2022-23

Ġawhar Misjub – An Operatic Production

After last year’s production, the opera-film Blat: The Island Fortress, in which several students and families took part; Mikiel Anton Vassalli College is putting up another production for the year 2022-2023 through the artistic platform Belt-il Bniedem.

This time, the focus shall be on a live performance covering operatic music of late Maltese composers – the production is named ‘Ġawhar Misjub’. The pieces performed in this production have never been performed before in Malta and range from Baroque till the twentieth century.

This production will give an opportunity to students attending any of the visual and performing arts schools within our college in more than one way.

The College has recruited professionals who will mentor the students in their practice for this production. These include a character coach, a stage director, a chamber orchestra, an orchestral conductor, a choir master, a costume mistress, makeup artists, a lighting designer, a set designer, a set builder, a choreographer, a stage manager, a production manager and repetiteurs.

We are offering you several learning opportunities and roles for which you can apply for (you can apply for any discipline no matter which school you attend):

1. Singers of classical music -sopranos, mezzo-sopranos,alti, tenors, baritones and basses are required for
   1. Solo parts
   2. To form a vocal ensemble (choir)
2. Performers of any of the orchestral instruments who have attained grade 6 or higher.
3. Interest in set design, construction and painting.
4. Interest in costume design.
5. Interest in light design.
6. Students who are taking ballet and contemporary dance.
7. Interest in the role to assistant in stage management.
8. Interest in the role to assist in production management.
9. Interest to shadow and assist the wardrobe mistress.
10. Interest to assist the makeup artist and wigs.
11. Students to take on a role to assist and shadow the stage director.
12. Interest to work as backstage hands.

Applicants may be called for an audition and/or interview individually or in group.
