The MAVC Gozo Visual & Performing Arts School welcomes six new teachers

Art Teacher Ms. Sonia Scerri graduated at Malta University with a PostGraduate in Art Education. Through the years, she has been teaching art to students of different age groups in various schools both secondary and primary. Other interests that Sonja follows are fine art, illustration and photography.

Mr. Philip Attard is a passionate saxophone teacher, graduated with a Master of Music with Distinction and an Artist Diploma from the Royal College of Music (RCM).
He has given master classes at the University of Southampton, the University of Highlands and Islands and the Malta Saxophone Festival, and was guest woodwind tutor on projects with the Malta Youth Orchestra. He has appeared as a soloist in several concert around Europe and the USA, including highlights at Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, St John Smith Square, St James Piccadilly, Southbank Centre and the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall.

M.Mus, B.Mus Kristina Dimic has been teaching violoncello for the past 20 years. She moved to Malta in 2017 and since then she has been an active member of the Malta Concert Orchestra and many other chamber and orchestra ensembles in Malta and Gozo. From 2019 she is Teacher in MAVC School of Music in Hamrun and from October 2020 she is teacher in our school. She believes that playing an instrument is such a benefit for every child that nothing can replace that experience.

Art Teacher Ms. Liliya Pangelova is a passionate artist with several international qualifications in academic drawing, painting, sculpture, and design. She has trained as a professional glassblower and is currently, pursuing a MTL (Masters of Teaching and Learning) in Arts degree at the University of Malta. As an artist, her creative practice resonates with the statement that being a professional means ensuring both the conceptual and technical quality of the artworks whilst leaving space for interpretation and freedom of artistic expression.

Percussion Teacher Jean Pierre Vaillancourt Cassar was first introduced to percussion after starting lessons with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra’s principal percussion, Daniel Cauchi. Eventually he enrolled at the University of Malta, while occasionally working as a part-time musician with the MPO. In 2016, Jean Pierre won an audition for the post of Assistant Timpani and First Percussion at Ruse State Opera in Bulgaria, where he worked until 2019. After joining the Malta Youth Orchestra, Jean Pierre was introduced to the internship programme in January 2020. He is also currently enrolled at the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito in Parma, studying with Nick Woud (Solo Timpani, Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam), as well as Ilya Melikhov (Russian National Orchestra).

Guitar Teacher Edmund Camilleri is an former student of our school and has recently obtained the LLCM from the University of West London. For the past 20 years he has been performing with various local bands spanning different genres.
