On Friday, 4 April 2025, renowned musicianship trainer and Kodály practitioner Len Tyler visited the Malta School of Music, part of Mikiel Anton Vassalli College, for a brief but impactful visit.
During his time at the college, Mr. Tyler worked with a group of five-year-old students, engaging them in fun and interactive musicianship activities. He also led a session with a clarinet ensemble, guiding the students through creative exercises that produced impressive musical outcomes.
Mr. Godfrey Mifsud, teacher of the clarinet group, commented, “Mr. Tyler’s visit to our clarinet class was engaging and inspiring. His warm approach and well-planned activities encouraged participation and creativity, boosting students’ confidence and motivation. We look forward to welcoming him again!”
Mr. Tyler is no stranger to Malta. While he is now best known for his work in music education and teacher training, his connection to the island dates back to 1966, when he arrived as a young trombone player in the British Army. His first posting was at St. Patrick’s Barracks (now Sir Adrian Dingli Pembroke Secondary School). He served in the military for 28 years, including 17 years as a music director, before transitioning to his current role in education.
