Mikiel Anton Vassalli College (MAVC) proudly presents the two creative script writers behind L-AHHAR BASTIMENT – Stories from the Grand Harbour: Simone Spiteri and Martin Farrugia, whose writing gives shape, depth, and emotional resonance to this powerful multidisciplinary production.
Simone Spiteri, founder of Dù Theatre, is one of the most distinctive voices of the Maltese stage. Her work as a director and performer has travelled from the USA to Egypt and across Europe, and she is a two-time winner of both the National Francis Ebejer Prize and the National Book Prize. For L-AĦĦAR BASTIMENT, Simone’s latest script explores the lives that history often forgets. When a freak storm drags a mysterious ghost ship into the Grand Harbour, the site becomes a modern media spectacle – prompting audiences to look beyond gossip and spectacle to discover the haunting connections between past and present in a world where everything risks becoming entertainment.
Alongside her, acclaimed writer and performer Martin Farrugia brings a wealth of multidisciplinary experience to the project. Well known for his iconic role as Inspector Lupi in Giselle and for his award-winning work on La Farfalla and La Familia, Martin has worked with international productions, trained with the Malta Film Commission, and writes across five languages. In this production, he designed one of the core narrative structures, moving beyond storytelling towards an act of remembrance. For him, the Grand Harbour is not just a place, but a vessel of memory – of arrival and departure, hope and loss – where history finally becomes personal.
Together, their writing transforms L-AĦĦAR BASTIMENT into a space where memory, history, and human experience meet, giving voice to stories that deserve to be heard.
The performance will take place on Saturday 9th May 2026 at St. Agatha Auditorium, Rabat.
