Once Upon a Drawing

Once Upon a Drawing took place at the Ta’ Qali Art Space between February 23^rd and March 4^th, 2026,marking a milestone in the MAVC Malta School of Art’s evolving approach to learning through making. The exhibition brought together the works of young students enrolled in MQF Level 1, MQF Level 2, and MQF Level 3 accredited programmes in Drawing and Painting, and it showcased how drawing serves as a dynamic starting point for artistic inquiry.

By uniting projects from diverse units of study, Once Upon a Drawing highlighted the diverse trajectories of the students’ creative processes. The works link storytelling, imagination, and expressive freedom – revealing how personal narratives and individual sensibilities emerged through a range of visual languages and modalities.

The exhibition celebrated artistic growth by foregrounding both process and outcome. It offered young studentsa valuable professional experience—presenting work within a formal exhibition context, and in doing so, fostering confidence, critical reflection, and engagement with wider audiences. The event underscored the vital role of art education in nurturing creativity, experimentation, and independent thought.

Over the course of its run, the show drew engagements from visitors and students alike. Once Upon a Drawing not only celebrated the students’ achievements but also reinforced the School of Arts’ commitment to nurturing curiosity, courage, and collaboration through hands-on learning.
