A Musical Bridge Across Seas: The Maxime Orchestra and L-AĦĦAR BASTIMENT

Mikiel Anton Vassalli College (MAVC) proudly welcomes The Maxime Orchestra as the resident orchestra for the 2026 artistic production L-AĦĦAR BASTIMENT – Stories from the Grand Harbour. Founded in 2022 on the initiative of young musicians, the orchestra has quickly established itself as a dynamic artistic ensemble committed to presenting classical music in an open, professional and socially engaged way.

Working within a flexible, project-based structure, The Maxime Orchestra adapts its size and artistic direction to suit each production, allowing it to perform a wide-ranging repertoire from chamber music to large-scale symphonic and vocal-instrumental works. The ensemble previously collaborated with MAVC in the premiere of Reuben Pace’s contemporary opera TRAB: The Rest is Dust, the College’s 2025 live production, and now returns to Malta for the tryptic L-AĦĦAR BASTIMENT.

The orchestra has presented a variety of artistic projects, including performances of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, the gala concert Young Talents Return to Zawiercie, the summer concert series Music for the Holidays, and educational initiatives such as the Musical Dialogues programme. Its work also extends to community and charitable activities, including concerts supporting social causes and educational events for young audiences and families in Poland and beyond.

Through its growing collaboration with MAVC, The Maxime Orchestra continues to strengthen cultural exchange between Malta and Poland. This partnership provides valuable opportunities for advanced music performance students from the MAVC Malta School of Music to perform alongside these professional musicians and gain experience in a high-level orchestral environment.

This artistic collaboration also builds on previous joint initiatives such as the Red & White Concert – A Concert of Maltese and Polish Chamber Music, which brought together contemporary works by Maltese and Polish composers in a programme celebrating cultural dialogue and musical exchange between the two countries.

Through L-AĦĦAR BASTIMENT – Stories from the Grand Harbour, the Maxime Orchestra contributes to a production where music, history and storytelling meet, giving voice to the memories and human experiences connected to Malta’s Grand Harbour.

The performance will take place on Saturday 9th May 2026 at St. Agatha Auditorium, Rabat.
