MAVC Gozo VPA School Shines at Europe Day 2025 Spring Festival

On Saturday, 3rd May 2025, students and educators from the MAVC Gozo Visual and Performing Arts School proudly represented the school at the Spring Festival in Villa Rundle Gardens, Victoria, as part of the Europe Day 2025 celebrations. This vibrant festival, celebrating creativity and collaboration, provided the perfect platform for the school to showcase its talent and multidisciplinary approach through the powerful presentation of “The Weight We Leave Behind.”

This original production was a compelling fusion of art, music, drama, and dance, featuring students: Kayleen Mercieca, Katlyn Vella, Ġuzeppi Grech, Gabriel Barbara, Norah Vella, Nina Debono Curmi, and Giorgio Anici Camilleri. The performance was brought to life through the dedicated efforts of a team of educators; original script and direction by Jamie Camilleri, choreography by Christabel Bajada, original music composed by Pierre Louis Attard, and visual design by Denis Mompalao. Together, they created a moving narrative that engaged the audience deeply, demonstrating how the arts can convey powerful emotion and social reflection.

In addition to this main performance, the school’s Violin Ensemble also took the stage with a beautifully crafted set including Brandy Snap by Mike Nelson, Trios for 3 Violins, Op. 34 by J. Bloch, and Beethoven’s timeless Ode to Joy. Under the musical direction of Pierre Louis Attard, the ensemble comprising Lucas Joe Portelli, Guillermo Ganet Martinez, David Magrin, Krista Attard, and Jade Caruana delivered a technically refined and artistically sensitive performance that captured the spirit of the day.

The event was a vivid demonstration of how arts education nurtures creativity, collaboration, and confidence in students. As Mr. Vince Caruana, Head of School, reflected, the performance was much more than a show, it was “part of their personal and academic growth.” This type of engagement provides students with invaluable experience performing publicly and collaborating across artistic disciplines.

Mr. Victor Galea, Head of College Network, highlighted the broader educational impact, noting that events like the Spring Festival “reinforce the value of integrating the arts into education,” helping students learn to express themselves authentically, work effectively as a team, and connect meaningfully with the wider community.

This celebration was a truly educational experience for all involved. It gave students a platform to showcase their talents while participating in a cultural event that celebrates European unity and artistic expression. It also underscored the importance of collaborative creativity within the school community.

The Gozo VPA School extends heartfelt thanks to all the students, teachers, and creatives who contributed their passion and dedication. Their combined efforts turned this event into a shining example of the transformative power of the arts.
