MAVC launches targeted campaign to promote the Teaching Profession in Visual & Performing Arts Education

As part of the New National Education Strategy 2024-2030, the Mikiel Anton Vassalli College (MAVC) within the Ministry for Education, Youth, and Research (MEYR) has unveiled a targeted promotional campaign aimed at encouraging individuals to pursue teaching careers in Visual and Performing Arts Education. This initiative aligns with the overarching theme of the strategy: “Wellbeing of Educators”, which places educators’ professional growth and holistic wellbeing at the forefront of Malta’s human capital planning efforts.

The campaign is a key component of the College’s commitment to addressing challenges in the recruitment and retention of skilled educators, particularly within the fields of visual and performing arts specifically for the Malta School of Music, Malta School of Art, Malta School of Drama & Dance as well as the Gozo Visual & Performing Arts School – the four schools forming part of M.A.V. College Network.

The Visual and Performing Arts represent a vital aspect of Malta’s cultural heritage and future innovation. By placing the arts at the centre of this campaign, MAVC aims to:

Inspire Passion: by highlighting the rewards of teaching in creative fields and the unique impact educators can have on students’ artistic development.

Raise Awareness: by showcasing the career opportunities available within visual and performing arts education, emphasizing the need for dedicated and innovative professionals.

Support Diversity: Encourage individuals from all walks of life to consider teaching as a fulfilling career path that nurtures both personal and community wellbeing.

The promotional campaign includes a variety of outreach efforts, one of which is a Social Media Outreach.

“By investing in arts educators, the ministry aims to create a positive ripple effect that fosters creativity, emotional resilience, and cultural appreciation across Malta’s education ecosystem” said Mr Victor Galea – the Head of Mikiel Anton Vassalli College.

In announcing the initiative, Mr Galea stated that “Educators are the backbone of our society, and the arts are the soul of our culture. By promoting careers in arts education, we are not only investing in the future of our students but also ensuring that Malta remains a vibrant hub for creative and cultural excellence.” The College would like to thank Mr Alan Fenech the Head of the Malta School of Drama and Dance for directing the 11 video promotions featuring testimonials from practicing educators in the arts to inspire new entrants into the profession. The College acknowledges also the professional work done by McKay Cinematography for the filming, editing and post editing of the video productions.
